Education without Examinations


"Educate children not for l passing them but making them."

 Covid-19 has changed the way of life across the world. The people are restricted to their homes and the work culture also has immensely changed. Do work from home style of working has been accepted by all the organisations. Education also could not been escaped from the worst trap. The schools and colleges are shut due to the lock down all around. The schools have adopted new method of teaching learning that is online teaching. This new pattern of teaching though found exciting and interesting for everybody at the beginning started reflecting its Darkside. Online teaching required so many resource material preparation and appropriate infrastructure which was not that easily available particularly in the smaller cities and rural areas in India.

Besides the lots of difficulties and obstacles in this online teaching learning process schools and colleges continued they work to this new online mode. Besides teaching and learning examinations are very important part of education. Testing / assessment is an integral and the most significant part of education. The pandemic continued longer than the expected duration week compare all the factors to find appropriate alternatives for the existing systems in education and assessment. Without examination it is very difficult to judge the comprehension and skill development which is and ultimate objective of education. School colleges anyhow manage online teaching with Limited infrastructure as well as limited resources to the learners. The education and assessment bodies try to complete their formal duties to finish that year with the exam conducted anyhow. The government and educational bodies cannot find out appropriate ways of conducting online exams specially for schools due to lack of appropriate infrastructure and resources available at different levels. The physical presence of the students into the schools and colleges was not possible due to to the continuous spread of covid-19 infections during the second wave. The government and education bodies not skip the educational year and stop education therefore they have find a way out of this situation. That is nothing but the assessment of students based on there internal assessment. There was continuous debate on this controversial issue of conducting examination. Finally Government and their educational bodies agreed upon not conducting actually examinations but cancelling them in the purview of the safety. The news of examination cancellation brought the wave of joy among students and some parents too. I feel this step seriously the real sign of the devaluation of education in society.

It proved the mentality of students as well as parents towards education. They have made education only passing the examination. But in true sense education is far beyond that. The exams are only the part of this broader concept which has been misunderstood in the practical life. Education and learning is not mere passing examination but developing and building personality. Education is making child capable take appropriate decision, apply his knowledge sensibly into the appropriate situation and use his Presence of Mind and creativity to find out solution over required situation. The mere passing of examinations and getting degrees have lost the real meaning of education which is been neglected deliberately by the Government as well as educationists. 

The students have been pushed ahead without creating appropriate abilities and improvements in their  required skills which is expected from education. It is very well known how the exams are conducted and how the results are declared nowadays. Students passed exams but they are not capable to prove themselves with appropriate skills and employability besides the qualification they have acquired by passing the exams only. The practical knowledge is possible only through proper education and training and exams are only means to test the students for their learning and understanding. Nowadays students how become too lax and parents also satisfying themselves with the numbers the can see on the mark sheets of the children. They are not even concerned to check whether those numbers that children have got are real up to the mark. This mentality result finally Into The Blame game where at last the same parents and students curse education for being fruitless due to not having capability to give proper employment to the educated population. I always wonder about the future of education and the coming generation. It can be rightly said, " Do not give them free bread but make them capable to earn it. I find our education today missing this broader objective of education and the examination in real sense which can result into the anarchy and doom. So we must try to keep education and the system pure and proper for the future of our coming generations.
